Public Speaking Expert
Lady Gaga may have proclaimed that she lives for the applause but it cannot be denied that she also seems to enjoy a little bit of controversy in her life with her latest speech at SXSW proving just that.
A sure way to grab attention in a speech is to say something controversial but unless you are Lady Gaga then you better probably be careful just who you are offending with your words!
During a keynote speech at the SXSW festival Lady Gaga talked about her being unable to compromise her creative force in her work which sounded very serious but was perhaps a little difficult to take so seriously when she was sat on a chair dressed in a gown made of white rubbish bags and wearing a bleached blonde dread lock wig.
Talking about the distinct under performance of her latest album Lady Gaga said: “I am very proud…I am held to such an insane standard, and it is almost like everybody forgets where the music business is now.”
Lady Gaga became particularly passionbate in her speech when she spoke of how she would rather stop making music altogether than have to compromise her talent in the process.
She said: “I refuse to compromise and allow my talents to be monetised to the point that I don’t want to be here anymore.
“I will stop, I will quit, I will retire from the commercial market if I have to do something other than be myself because if I can’t be myself in this moment, then everything I have said to my friends since the beginning will be a total lie. Then what? I will be myself until I have to make money to sustain a luxurious lifestyle, and then I change right? No, I will be myself till they ******* close the coffin so that you can all be yourselves.”
If this was not enough to grab the headlines Lady gaga then went on to insult pop singer Katy Perry by saying: “I don’t know what the **** I have to do with Katy Perry. My music is so different and I couldn’t be more different.”
She added that the obsession in the music industry with the way a person looks is something that she refuses to play into.
“That’s the thing that poisoned me… [people in the industry saying] ‘We want you to be beautiful’ over and over and over in my head until I just wanted to look ugly all the time because I’m rebellious… I’ve won Grammys now. I’ve written albums. I’ve toured the world four times… You’re telling me to be beautiful? That’s what this is all about Is it all about tits and ***? That’s so sad.”
By keeping it controversial Lady gaga is able to use he speeches to gain huge coverage and media attention, even if it is sometimes at the expense of others.
