The Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wedding has caused a media frenzy with the king and queen of entertainment finally getting married at the weekend and as expected the speech given by Kanye West was in keeping with the extravagant event running at 20 minutes in length.
Kanye West is known for not being shy about expressing himself and the 20 minute speech by the 36 year old rapper covered many different topics ranging from everything from “public welfare” to the challenges facing celebrities today – something he and his new wife and family are all too familiar with.
He said in the speech: “They feel like it’s okay to put you on the tabloid covers to sell your image, to use you in an SNL spoof.”
He added: “We don’t negotiate. We’re not like that. We’re not stupid. The Kardashians are an industry!”
While his commentary on the state of the media in relation to celebrity may have raised a few eyebrows his compliments to his new wife were also typically off beat.
He described Kim as being the “ideal celebrity…the ideal art” in his grooms speech after the wedding ceremony.
The speech from Kanye West picked up pace as it went in and moved into a passionate tirade as he said: “We are warriors! There is not one person at this table that has not had to defend us at some point or another.”
He added: “At this table, the combination of powers can make the world a better place” and he continued to state that those at the table were the “most remarkable people of our time”.
It is not clear exactly who Kanye was referring to at the table but there are many people speculating as to the identities of those he was referring to.
Kanye West made his speech in front of 600 guests at his wedding to Kim Kardashian which took place in Forte di Belvedere in Florence.
During a wedding it is usual for the groom to make a speech after the ceremony, however it is not so usual to make that speech last for 20 minutes but when it comes to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian then nothing can be considered to be “usual”!
Making a speech at a wedding requires a good blend of delicate humour suitable for the entire audience and in line with the tone of the wedding. More casual weddings can see lighter speeches while more formal weddings often require a more formal speech.
