Public Speaking Expert
Kanye West is one of the biggest music stars in the world but when people go to one of his concerts they generally want to hear his music and not another long winded and poorly timed speech and the fans at the Wireless festival in the UK made it clear that they wanted to hear his singing voice and not his public speaking.
After only 15 minutes of his already delayed set, Kanye West decided to shut of the music and launch into a speech about himself.
Kanye West said: “I’m very shy in real life. Because I’m too shy to put out some b******. Sometimes it’s hard because I’m too shy to carry off a lot. I’m arrogant and shy and a little bit lazy. I’m too shy to lie to anybody and I’m too arrogant to make myself lie to anyone because lies take too much work.”
Fans were said to be pleased when he returned to the music but another speech was on the way and this time he spoke about an incident relating to himself and a member of the paparazzi.
He said: “The media try to take me down and make me seem like I’m a crazy person but I’m working hard to make this music and share it wit y’all and I know that at the end of the day you guys are my clique and that’s all that matters,
He added: “The only reason I’m on this stage right now is because y’all my clique. You know I go to the studio til 3am so you can listen to the music in your car.’
While this speech left many confused as to why he felt the need to make it in the middle of a set, it was equally odd for fans the night before when he ended up being booed by the audience following a 20 minute speech in the middle of his set.
In the speech on the previous night he said: “’I’m not going to mention any names but… Nike, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. Don’t discriminate against me ‘cos I’m a black man making music.”
Neither of the speeches were well received and one person who was at the concert told te Daily Mail newspaper: “’As he performed his verse on Clique, the rapper stopped the music to explain that the chorus of the song has special meaning to him. As he began the speech the crowd started to jeer but soon stopped and clapped when he continued with the song,’ the source explained.
The insider continued: ‘During his now routine speech during Runaway, he opened up about his paparazzi camera incident. He said he had just been at a deposition in regards to the case and explained that on the day of the incident, he was actually on the phone being told that his grandfather was not going to make it.’
Speech making is an art and one of the keys is finding the right moment to make the speech – perhaps Kanye West should consider his timing in the future if he wants to please his fans rather than make them angry during concerts.
